Booking a cab to Bangalore airport: a practical checklist

Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) sits in Devanahalli, well north of the city. For most of south and east Bengaluru — Sarjapur Road, HSR Layout, Whitefield, Electronic City — that means a long drive, and the time it takes depends far more on the hour than on the distance.

Leave more buffer than you think

Traffic on Hebbal flyover, Outer Ring Road and the airport road changes sharply through the day. Early-morning departures are usually quick; evening peak can easily double the drive. Plan to reach the terminal at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international one, then work backwards with a generous cushion for the drive.

Book the night before, not at the kerb

App cabs for a 4 am pickup are a gamble — drivers decline long runs at odd hours. A pre-booked cab with a confirmed driver removes that uncertainty. When you book, share:

• The exact pickup point, gate or tower number, and a landmark
• Your flight number, so the dispatch desk can track delays on arrival pickups
• Number of passengers and bags — a sedan fits two large suitcases comfortably, an SUV or Innova suits families
• A phone number that will be reachable at pickup time

Pick the right vehicle

Luggage decides the vehicle more often than passengers do. Four people with four check-in bags will not fit a sedan's boot. For groups, a tempo traveller is usually cheaper per head than two cabs and keeps everyone together.

Arrivals: where to meet your driver

For arrival pickups, the driver waits at the designated pickup area outside the terminal. Share your flight number and keep your phone on after landing; the driver will call once you are out. Airport parking and tolls are charged at actuals, so there are no surprises on the bill.

Keep the paperwork simple

If you travel for work, ask for a GST invoice at booking. Corporate accounts can receive one consolidated monthly invoice instead of chasing individual receipts.
