Bangalore to Mysore by road: a relaxed one-day plan
The Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway makes Mysore an easy day trip. Here is how to pace the day, where to stop, and what to keep in mind when you hire a cab.
BLR Cabs Team
Mysore (Mysuru) is the classic Bengaluru day trip, and the access-controlled Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway has made the drive smoother than it used to be. A cab with a driver lets everyone enjoy the stops instead of watching the road.
Start early
Leave Bengaluru early to clear city traffic before it builds. An early start also means you reach the palace and the other sights before the midday heat and the biggest crowds.
Stops worth making on the way
- Srirangapatna — Tipu Sultan's island fortress town, with the Ranganathaswamy temple and Daria Daulat Bagh
- Ranganathittu bird sanctuary — best in the early morning, especially in the breeding season
- Local breakfast stops along the old highway if you prefer a slower drive
In Mysore
The Mysore Palace is the centrepiece; on Sundays and festival evenings it is lit up with thousands of bulbs. Chamundi Hill gives a view over the city, and Devaraja Market is the place for flowers, sandalwood and Mysore pak. If you are staying into the evening, the Brindavan Gardens at the KRS dam are a short drive away.
Tips for hiring a cab
- Choose a round trip for a same-day return; the fare covers the vehicle, driver and fuel for the agreed kilometres
- Tolls on the expressway and parking at sights are extra at actuals — ask for them to be listed on the invoice
- Share your planned stops at booking so the driver can plan the route and timing
- For groups of seven or more, a tempo traveller is more comfortable than two cars
Make it a weekend
If one day feels rushed, add a night and continue to Coorg or the hills of Chikmagalur. Our tour packages bundle the vehicle, driver bata and fuel into one price for exactly these trips.
