Route

How to reach Pondicherry from Bengaluru by road

Via Hosur, Krishnagiri & Tiruvannamalai

The main route heads out via Hosur and Krishnagiri, then turns toward Tiruvannamalai, Gingee and Tindivanam before reaching Pondicherry. This inland path is the one BLR Cabs runs by default, passing several temple towns along the way.

Via Vellore (alternative)

An alternative runs through Vellore before turning toward Tindivanam and Pondicherry, sometimes preferred if combining the trip with a Vellore Fort or Golden Temple visit, though it adds distance compared with the direct Tiruvannamalai path.

A moderate distance means a mid-morning start from Bengaluru still gets you into Pondicherry by evening. The route via Hosur and Krishnagiri is well-trafficked highway, while the stretch through Tiruvannamalai and Gingee runs through smaller towns with more local traffic.

Coastal humidity picks up noticeably as you near Pondicherry, so keep the air conditioning topped up and carry water for the last leg. Fuel and food stops are frequent along the whole route, so there is little need to plan refuelling in advance.

Season

Best time to visit Pondicherry

October to March is the most comfortable season for Pondicherry, with mild coastal weather suited to walking the beach promenade and White Town’s French-quarter streets. Winter mornings by the sea can be genuinely pleasant.

Summer (April–June) turns hot and humid, making midday sightseeing tiring, though early mornings and evenings remain workable. The northeast monsoon (October–December) can bring occasional heavy spells, so check forecasts before travelling in that window.
