Bangalore to Yercaud Road Trip Guide: Route, Stops & Itinerary
Yercaud is a compact, quieter hill station reached by a short highway run down NH44 followed by a gentle ghat climb — an easy weekend escape from Bengaluru.
How to reach Yercaud from Bengaluru by road
Via Hosur & Salem (NH44)
The direct route runs south on NH44 through Hosur and Krishnagiri to Salem, then turns onto the Yercaud ghat road for the final climb. This is the shortest and most used path, and the one BLR Cabs runs by default for Yercaud trips.
Via Dharmapuri (alternative)
An alternative swings through Dharmapuri before rejoining the Salem road, occasionally used to avoid congestion on the main NH44 stretch near Krishnagiri, though it adds a little distance.

A relatively short drive means you can leave Bengaluru mid-morning and still reach Yercaud comfortably by early afternoon. NH44 through Hosur, Krishnagiri and Salem is a well-maintained highway with steady traffic and good fuel and food options along the way.
The final ghat climb from Salem to Yercaud is short but winding — drive at a measured pace, especially with children in the car. Fuel up in Salem before the climb, since options are limited on the ghat section itself.
Best time to visit Yercaud
Yercaud is comfortable through most of the year given its moderate elevation, but October to March brings the most pleasant weather with cool mornings and clear daytime skies, ideal for the coffee and orange estate walks the hill station is known for.
Summer (April–June) is warmer but still noticeably cooler than the plains, making it a viable quick escape even in peak heat. The June–September monsoon brings rain and mist that can make the short ghat climb slower, though it rarely closes the road.
| Season | Months | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Winter | Oct–Feb | Cool, clear, best for estate walks |
| Summer | Mar–Jun | Warmer but a relief from the plains |
| Monsoon | Jun–Sep | Rain and mist, slower ghat driving |

Travel tips for a Yercaud road trip
- A sedan is perfectly comfortable for this shorter trip; larger groups can opt for an Ertiga or Innova Crysta.
- The short ghat road still has enough bends to affect motion-sensitive passengers — keep medication handy.
- Carry a light sweater for cooler mornings, especially outside the summer months.
- FASTag covers NH44 tolls on the way; keep some cash as backup.
- Network coverage is generally good throughout, with only brief dips on the ghat climb.
- Book ahead for weekends, since Yercaud’s proximity to Bengaluru makes it a popular short getaway.
- This trip works well even as a long day out if you are short on time, though an overnight stay is more relaxed.
- Confirm your exact resort or hotel location with your driver, as some properties sit off the main estate roads.
