Bangalore to Mysore Road Trip Guide: Route, Stops & Itinerary
Mysuru’s palaces, markets and hill temples make it Karnataka’s most popular short road trip from Bengaluru.
How to reach Mysore from Bengaluru by road
NH275 Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway (main route)
The fastest and most comfortable option runs on the NH275 expressway via Bidadi, Ramanagara, Channapatna, Maddur and Mandya before reaching Srirangapatna and Mysuru. It is a mostly divided, well-surfaced highway with service roads through the towns, and is the route nearly every operator and GPS app defaults to.
Old Mysore Road (alternative, slower)
The older Mysore Road runs closer to Bidadi and Ramanagara town centres and sees more local traffic and signals. It is occasionally used when the expressway has diversions or heavy holiday traffic, but adds 30–45 minutes over the expressway route for the same towns.

Leaving Bengaluru before 7 am on a weekend clears the city and the Kengeri–Bidadi stretch before traffic builds; on weekdays, avoiding the evening return between 6 and 9 pm saves the most time. The expressway has toll plazas, so keep FASTag active or carry cash as a backup.
The road is flat and well-lit, with no ghat sections or forest night-driving restrictions, so an early-morning or late-evening drive is equally comfortable. Fuel stations and food courts are frequent along the expressway near Ramanagara, Channapatna and Mandya, so there is no need to detour for either.
Best time to visit Mysore
October to February offers the most pleasant weather for walking around Mysore Palace grounds, Chamundi Hill and the local markets, with cool mornings and mild afternoons. This is also peak tourist season, especially around Dasara in September–October when the city is decorated and busiest.
March to May turns hot by midday, so plan palace and hill visits for early morning or late afternoon. The monsoon months of June to September bring intermittent rain but rarely disrupt the drive; the expressway drains well and greenery around Ramanagara and Mandya looks its best.
| Season | Months | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Winter | Oct–Feb | Best overall; cool, clear, ideal for sightseeing |
| Summer | Mar–May | Hot midday; visit palace/hill early or late |
| Monsoon | Jun–Sep | Occasional rain; drive unaffected, lush scenery |

- Dress modestly for Chamundi temple and the Ranganathaswamy temple at Srirangapatna; footwear is left outside.
- This is an entirely intrastate Karnataka route, so no interstate permit is required.
- Keep FASTag topped up; carry some cash as a fallback at toll plazas.
- Network coverage is good throughout; there are no signal gaps on this corridor.
- Book your cab a few days ahead for weekends around Dasara and other long weekends when demand peaks.
- Carry water and snacks for kids, though the expressway has frequent food courts.
