Bangalore to Shravanabelagola Road Trip Guide: Route, Stops & Itinerary
Home to the towering Gomateshwara statue atop Vindhyagiri hill, Shravanabelagola is one of Karnataka’s most important Jain pilgrimage and heritage sites.
How to reach Shravanabelagola from Bengaluru by road
Via Nelamangala and Channarayapatna (main route)
The direct route runs from Bengaluru through Nelamangala towards Channarayapatna, branching off a short distance before Hassan to reach Shravanabelagola. Roads are a mix of national and state highway, generally in good condition.
Combining with Belur-Halebidu or Hassan
Since Shravanabelagola sits close to the Hassan heritage circuit, many travellers combine it with a Belur-Halebidu trip or use it as a stop on the way to or from Hassan.

An early departure, ideally by 7 am, gives comfortable time to climb Vindhyagiri hill before the afternoon heat sets in, since the climb involves several hundred steps in the open. Traffic near Nelamangala can be heavier in the morning hours.
The route has no ghat sections, so there are no night-driving restrictions. Fuel stations and eateries are available through Channarayapatna; carry water for the hill climb itself, as options at the top are limited.
Best time to visit Shravanabelagola
October to February offers cool mornings, making the barefoot climb up Vindhyagiri hill far more comfortable than in the heat of summer.
March to May sees the stone steps get quite hot by midday, so an early morning visit is strongly preferred in this season. The monsoon (June–September) can make the steps slippery, so extra care is needed, though the surrounding hills look their greenest.

|---|---|---|
| Winter | Oct–Feb | Best; cool steps, comfortable barefoot climb |
| Summer | Mar–May | Hot steps by midday; climb early |

- The hill climb is barefoot at Jain custom; carry socks if the stone gets hot, and dress modestly.
- This is an intrastate Karnataka trip, so no interstate permit is required.
- Carry some cash for parking and any hilltop offerings; card acceptance is limited.
- Network coverage is reliable through Channarayapatna, with minor gaps near the hill itself.

- Book ahead for weekends and Jain festival periods, when the site draws large crowds.
